Following the good Mr. Stewart, I too shall begin posting my training endeavors regarding my newly found fascination with Girevoy or Kettlebell Sport.
Girevoy Sport contains two timed events: the biathlon and the long cycle.
The biathlon consists of a 10 minute snatch session and a 10 minute jerk session.
The snatch session only uses one kettlebell. The lifter may not set the kettlebell down until finished, may only switch hands once, and the rules now say only the lower number shall count.
The jerk session uses two kettlebells. Again, the lifter may not set the kettlebell down until finished, must remain overhead long enough to count (at judge's discretion, not very long though).
The long cycle consists of 10 minutes of clean-and-jerking two kettlebells. Similar rules apply here.
Simple yet demanding. The sport requires the athlete to have extremely efficient technique in addition to cardio respiratory and muscular endurance.
Things to consider:
Can I hold 2x16kg bells in the rack position for 10 minutes while satisfying the 4EE?
Not yet.
Can I hold onto one 16kg kettlebell, no movement, for 5 minutes on each hand... while satisfying the 4EE?
Again, not yet.
Two external variables I can play with: length of hold and weight of the bell(s), both of which I plan to increase progressively.
So in addition to practicing the movement of the kettlebell snatch, clean, and jerk I need to become extremely efficient at simply holding the bells.
