7. “I’d like to get in better shape before I begin your program” Understandably, we hear this all the time. What many people fail to understand is that doing exercises on machines or isolation free weight exercise with limited range of motion, or just good old calisthenics will not only NOT prepare them for the intensity that CrossFit delivers, but it will also not have any useful carryover to developing full range of motion, full body functional movements such as skills and movements found in Olympic Weightlifting, Gymnastics, and Track and Field, Rowing, and Throwing. Beginners start by learning basic movements with little or no weight. As they progress, we add weight and improve strength. We then introduce more challenging exercises to improve coordination, agility and range of motion. As skills and movements are mastered we increase the intensity.
8. What experience level or skill set is needed before starting with CrossFit Plano? No prior experience is required. We train athletes and non-athletes alike starting with learning basic movements with little or no weight, such as squats, dead lifts, and pull-ups, and we incrementally progress to heavier weights or more advanced skills and movements only after mastery of the basics is achieved.
Our program is fully scalable to your individual needs meaning it can be made as hard or easy as it needs to be.
9. Why train only compound, functional movements? Why not use machines? Training functional, compound movements is important because:
I. They mimic the movement patterns typically found in everyday life (sit and stand, lift object off the floor). Building strength in these movements helps to retain or regain your body’s natural mobility and prevents the need for a nursing home in later years.
II. They are mechanically sound. They are safer than machines and there is less incidence of injury when properly coached and supervised. III. They elicit a larger neuroendocrine response. Simply stated – you get results quicker and more effectively. IV. Training with machines forces your body to move along the machine’s line of action, and not your own. This can potentially force your body into a mechanically unsound position, unnecessarily risking injury. Additionally, because machines stabilize the weight for you the movements you train on machines have no applicability to movements in the real world. 10. How does CrossFit Plano differ from other gyms? At CrossFit Plano our business is high quality fitness training, not sales. That being the case, we keep our clients because we help them make remarkable progress and have fun doing it.
Every time you set foot in our gym you will have an expert trainer to coach, and guide you every step of the way for maximum results. You get personalized training at just group rates.
Perhaps most important - CrossFit Plano fosters a very supportive atmosphere. Everyone likes to see you make improvements!
11. This program looks too easy/hard.
By adjusting the complexity, intensity, and/or load, we can start you at a level appropriate to your current fitness level and experience. As you progress, we introduce more challenging exercises to improve coordination, agility and range of motion. This also keeps the training fun and interesting!
