Worth It: A Garage CrossFitter Tackles the WOD at Two Affiliates

by David R. Vos

There's been some talk on the boards lately, taking issue with the need for CrossFit affiliates. On a day where the prescribed workout consisted of 5 rounds of 3 max Deadlifts (3-3-3-3-3), a CrossFitter posted, "I hope if I ever go to a CrossFit gym that they don't charge me money to do 15 deadlifts!!!" His frugality is respectable, but there needs to be some clarification regarding the need for affiliates and the experts who run them.

Welcome USMC Recruiting Station - Plano
Written by Troy Dodson

The USMC Plano Recruiting Station showed up in force Thursday night at CrossFit Plano to get exposed to CrossFit and undertake their first CrossFit workout.  They put up a hell of an effort and made a good showing for themselves!  Special thanks to Gunny Castillo for making this happen!

"Fight Gone Bad!"

Three rounds of:
Wall-ball, 20 pound ball, 10 ft target (Reps)
Sumo deadlift high-pull, 75 pounds (Reps)
Box Jump, 20" box (Reps)
Push-press, 75 pounds (Reps)
Row (Calories)

In this workout you move from each of five stations after a minute. The clock does not reset or stop between exercises. This is a five-minute round from which a one-minute break is allowed before repeating. On call of "rotate", the athletes must move to next station immediately for best score. One point is given for each rep, except on the rower where each calorie is one point.

I'll update his results as soon as I find out how his bench and deadlift went.  I know he 'won' because he was the only one entered in his weight class (123 pounds).  Through the wonders of (dis)organization this small meet turned into 5 hours!  I only managed to see Chris' back squats, and a couple of his bench presses.  I really wanted to see him deadlift as that is his favorite event.  Here is a link to our forum where a conversation is going - maybe Chris will update his results to this thread?
