About Us - Mission Statement, Values and Philosophy
CrossFit Plano is a private training gym located in Plano, TX. We are the only CrossFit Affiliate in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and one of only a hand full of affiliates in the State of Texas. We teach group CrossFit classes and provide one-on-one training in athletic conditioning, functional exercise, Olympic Weightlifting, basic Gymnastics, kettlebell training, medicine ball training, and sandbag training. While we are focused primarily on developing well-rounded functional fitness, our program is also effective at improving one's body composition. Our clients range in age, ability and come from various backgrounds. From athletes (and former athletes), military, professionals to non-athletes, housewives, students, and grandparents. The training needs of all of our clients differ in degree not kind. In other words, our housewives and military folks all need to train the same functional movements but at varying degrees of load and intensity. CrossFit Plano strives to build community and improve quality of life through the pursuit of elite fitness.
A community that is functionally fit, healthy and vital, and is not bound by the conventional beliefs that health and fitness do not go hand-in-hand, and that strength and joint mobility must decline with age.
We believe that, as humans, we are meant to run, to jump, to swim, to crawl, to play, to walk, to dive, to flip, to roll, to live life. Your body isn't designed to stay in a static seated position; it is designed for movement! Unfortunately our modern lifestyles don't often allow us to move and live the life the way we should. Our modern lifestyles while providing us with with unprecedented technologies and conveniences also promote inactive lifestyles and therefore the loss of strength, bone density, and joint mobility. Loss of any of these three reduces our quality of life, increases the occurrence of chronic musculoskeletal related problems, and at its worst culminates in reliance on "mobility" products such as scooter or walkers or even life at a nursing home. Who do you know, that if asked would say that they would not like to remain active, self-reliant, and healthy throughout the duration of their life? Yet how many people do you know who actually live lifestyles that promote normal joint mobility, flexibility and strength? Who, in your life, do you know, has managed to maintain (as an adult) the joint mobility and strength that they had in their youth? I can count the people I know on just one hand.
For many, growing up in Suburbia, USA, our inactive lifestyles begin in childhood. Practically non-existent physical education programs in school, weekdays sitting in classrooms, weekends at the movie theater serve to exacerbate the problem. As adults we often find ourselves stuck in traffic, in work cubicles, and then when we finally have free time we often are so "worn out" by all that inactivity that we plant ourselves in front of the TV. One day you come to the realization that what once was easy is now hard, and you actually wonder to yourself where you got off track. You decide you need to go to a gym so you can "get in shape", and feel better. Your trainer tells you to do 30 minutes of cardio followed by 3 sets of 12 reps on "XYZ" machine or Swiss ball balancing, but after 3 months of this you are disillusioned because even though you were committed you still carry your same old body aches and pains (i.e.. lower back hurts or knee pain) and you aren't any healthier. You decide to yourself that "fitness" obviously must not be the solution for you and you then "accept the fact" that this is normal and is expected as you age. Sound familiar?
Most adults need "reconditioning". By reconditioning ourselves to what can be considered to be normal ranges of strength, flexibility, and joint mobility we can increase our quality of life, increase our ability to do the things that give us joy and add enrichment to our lives such as being physically active and playing sports, running around with our kids, and traveling the world. Balanced physical fitness, including "normal" ranges of joint mobility and strength, not only add years to your life but more importantly adds life to your years.
CrossFit Plano is different because we enable and guide you towards increasing your own knowledge, and experience in all things fitness related. Other trainers commonly rely on keeping you from fully learning their program, and sadly, from achieving your full potential. To them, a dependent client = a steady paycheck. We make our living by getting you results, not by selling you programs you do not need.
We focus on learning and developing proficiency in functional movements. We strive to develop well-rounded, balanced fitness by making adaptations in all 10 aspects of fitness, and by reestablishing normal ranges of joint mobility and flexibility. We challenge you to push yourself to new limits, learn new and challenging skills, and strive for perfection of every skill and movement you learn. Every time you come to CrossFit Plano, you are expertly coached through your session.
